About vitamin D & the sun
Your skin makes vitamin D from UVB, so the amount of sun you need depends on the UV level and your skin type — darker skin needs longer. These are short, midday estimates for bare arms and face; you don't need to burn to make vitamin D, and you shouldn't. In winter or at high latitudes UVB can be too low to produce much at all, in which case diet or supplements help. This is general guidance, not medical advice.
